Erm I was wondering if I could have a little look over a different set of notes on 'Sad Steps'.
Mine are a bit poor,
I didn't particularly 'Get' that one.

Sad Steps
Symbolism
.'Rapid clouds' suggests time moving quickly.
.the 'moon's cleanliness' suggests that the moon never looks a day older, yet everything else ages.
.Moon also represents isolation as Larkin compares himself to the moon and that he is distant from the rest of the world yet he is still there.
Imagery
.'Startled by the rapid clouds, the moon's cleanliness' shows that he is admiring the night sky.
.Stanza 4 is the listing of what the moon means to different people and creatures. however, stanza 5 describes the moon as he sees it. he also personifies the moon as an Eye staring down on the world.
Also Larkin wrote this poem in the 1970's so he was in his fifties.
Hope this helps
Beau
